Dallas – Fort Worth metroplex, Texas Breast Implants

If you are considering breast augmentation, it is because you want to improve the appearance of your breasts and to achieve the appearance you desire. In selecting a breast augmentation procedure that will help you achieve your results, it’s important to consider the placement of your breast implants. Breast implants can be placed under the breast and over the pectoral muscle, or they can be placed under the pectoral muscle. Which placement you choose will significantly impact the quality and style of your breast augmentation results.
This page gives some basic information about the placement options available, but cannot give specific information about which is right for you. To discuss your placement options and which one will give you the results you desire, please call 800-558-7355 or email the Cosmetic Surgical Center in Dallas to schedule a consultation with plastic surgeon Dr. Vasdev Rai.

Subglandular Breast Implant Placement

Placement of the breast implants directly under the breast tissue is called “subglandular placement.” This breast implant placement can give more dramatic breast augmentation results, and may have a shorter recovery time for you, but has some disadvantages, including:

  • Breast implants more likely to show (especially for saline breast implants)
  • Breasts may sag more quickly
  • May have a higher risk of capsular contracture

Subglandular placement can give very dramatic results and may be the right choice for you.

Submuscular Breast Implant Placement

In submuscular placement, the breast implants are placed under the pectoral muscles. Sometimes, the breast implant is placed partially under the muscles, and in other cases it is completely placed under the muscle. No matter whether the implant is fully or partly under the muscle, submuscular placement has a number of advantages:

  • Breast implant is better concealed
  • Breast implant is better supported

The main disadvantage of submuscular placement is that it can lead to a longer recovery from breast augmentation. Submuscular placement of the breast implants can be achieved using any breast augmentation incision.
