What Is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift is a procedure for restoring a more attractive, youthful appearance to sagging breasts. A breast lift removes excess skin from sagging breasts and re-shapes the breast mound to give it a more youthful position and a more attractive shape.

There are a number of breast lift procedures available, with incisions that can encircle the areola, descend to the inframammary fold, and/or continue along the fold. The right incision for you depends on the degree of lifting you need.

When You Need a Breast Lift

Breast augmentation can provide some correction for a sagging breast shape. If your nipples are somewhat downward pointing, breast implant settling will help to direct them upward. However, if your breasts have descended so that a significant amount of the breast rests below the breast fold, then adding breast implants can actually make the situation worse as the implants will settle into the sagging breasts.

When You Need Breast Implants

A breast lift can improve and reshape sagging breasts using the breast material you already have. If you are content with the size but not the shape of your breasts, then a breast lift can help. However, if you do not feel that your breasts are an adequate size, then you should consider a breast lift with implants.
